Joseph Fire Museum
The St. Joseph Fire Museum is owned and
operated by the St. Joseph Firefighters Union, Local 77.
The St. Joseph Fire Museum is located in the
former St. Joseph Fire Station Number Five and is considered by
many to be an architectural masterpiece. The Fire Museum is
located just South of Downtown St. Joseph, directly between the
historical Pony Express Museum and the Patee House Museum.
The St. Joseph Fire Department was founded in
1865 and has continuously guarded the residents of St. Joseph
ever since. Members of the St. Joseph Fire Department introduced
several innovative fire fighting methods that have led to the
advancement of firefighting techniques throughout the country.
The St. Joseph Fire Museum contains a huge collection of
historical firefighting equipment that has been used to protect
the residents in St. Joseph for over 140 years. Much of the
collection has been meticulously restored to original condition
including fire trucks that were actually used to fight fires
throughout St. Joseph.
